I recently shared a visual on Twitter via @notts_stats showing the use of loan players in the National League for the current season so far which, on the face of it seemed innocent enough.
However, after a little bit of research it dawned on me just how important the loan system is to clubs, not just those benefitting from loan signings but also those clubs that benefit from loaning their players out.
I decided to dig a little deeper and take a closer look at how the system is utilised, the players loaned, the clubs involved, and the impact loans have on club academies at all levels.
